We had Science Day which was a great success. Nursery and Reception spent the day looking at dinosaurs. They were making volcanoes, finding dinosaur bones in sand and making their own fossils. Year 1 and Year 2 went on a minibeast hunt into the forest. They made minibeast hotels and spent lots of time on the search for bugs. Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 spent the day looking at the heart and how to keep our bodies healthy. They spent time doing a circuit of activities to see if physical activity had an effect on the heart rate. Years 5 and 6 were all given the opportunity to get a hands on experience with the heart. In the afternoon, the children in years 3, 4, 5 and 6 spent time looking at an artist called Dan Cretu. They used his artwork for inspiration to make their own fruit sculptures.
Neil Spencer, Pastor at Woodford Baptist Church, visited us this morning to speak about Simon from the Gospel. The story tells us of a man named Simon, who when Jesus meets, is renamed Peter. Peter means ‘rock’, ‘strong’, ‘stable’ and Jesus could see the good in Simon that he could not see himself.

Mrs Phillips started our singing practice with a lovely stretch to; wake us up, get us to sit up straight and take the time to get focused. We then did a few breathing exercises that help us to use our full lung capacity when we sing. Being aware of our breath helps us to stay focused, sing to our best ability and refreshes our brains with fresh, clean oxygen!
The first song of the day, is as always, our warm up song ‘Tumba’. An easy song to remember and a tune we all love to hum or sing along to, we started quietly and then progressively got louder!
We then moved on to our hymn of the day ‘Colours of Day’. A beautiful song, with a soft tune and a lovely message that Jesus will bring light to our lives.
After we had practised our hymn, we moved on to our Easter songs – we practise these songs each week and we’re getting better every time! Mrs Phillips was very impressed with how well we remembered the lyrics, tune and said that we “sounded very musical today!”.
What do you think? Pretty good huh!
