Gymnastics Competition

Gymnastics is a key part of our PE Curriculum and Ms Fourie believes “it helps our children to build positive personality traits such as confidence, self-esteem, courage and also gives the children body awareness as they begin to learn new balances, postures and routines.”

Gymnastics provides a unique and valuable social education and experience. It provides an ideal opportunity to learn about teamwork; sportsmanship; fair play and dedication. The time required to master the fundamental skills requires a great amount of patience, dedication, perseverance and planning. Regular gymnastics therefore helps people learn to work hard for objectives that can take years to achieve.

It is known that gymnastics is linked to fostering a ‘growth mindset’. This helps create a love of learning and a resilience essential to great accomplishments. Gymnastics also promotes improved mental focus and concentration, a valuable attribute to have throughout life!

Just before half term, Ms Fourie held a Gymnastics Competition for each year group and the children were able to make a routine of their choice, as well as partaking in some events such as the vault. “The children really enjoy the classes and the competition just adds a bit more of a fun factor. I feel it gives the children the opportunity to really push their efforts and prove to themselves just how capable they all are too!” – Ms Fourie.
